NFL Power Rankings

NFL Power Rankings 2013

Source

What better way to start our NFL section of our blog then to give you our Power Rankings for the upcoming 2013 season. When it comes to selecting who we believe deserves the #1 spot we looked into consistency, chemistry, talent and offseason moves along with other traits explained in each teams summary.  Remember, it is just the preseason, so the bolder the ranking the better!

 #1
Denver Broncos
The Broncos are well deserving of the #1 spot! Behind their fearless leader (Peyton Manning) the Broncos look to improve on impressive 13-3 record last year. With the signing of Wes Welker, the Broncos added depth to an already impressive WR core. Add that to an impressive O-Line, a healthy LB group with Von Miller and you have a team destined for a great season.

#2 Atlanta Falcons
“Matty Ice” is entering his 6th season as an NFL quarterback and we are expecting huge numbers and a lot of wins for the Falcons. Getting a first ballot HOF in Tony Gonzalez sure helps a lot along with the likes of Osi Umenyuira, Sam Baker and Steven Jackson and one could say the Falcons had the best offseason. Needless to say they still have Julio and Roddy, questionably the best WR tandem in the NFL.

#3 Houston Texans
Talk about a defense that no NFL team wants to face, the Houston Texans are looking like a #1 Defense for sure (They were in the top 5 last year without their former Defensive Rooke of the Year/Pro Bowler Brian Cushings who is poised to return to the field in 2013). If Ed Reed gets/stays healthy, we could not think of any QB that would want to throw against this D. If their D isn’t good enough, enter an offense with Andre Johnson, Arian Foster, the entire O-Line and a QB looking to prove the analysts wrong. Texans will be tough this year for sure and could make it deep into the playoffs.

#4 Green Bay Packers
The next four teams could easily swap places they are so close, but we choose to put the Green Bay Packers at #4. Although they lost Greg Jennings (didn’t seem to hurt them last year) the Packers will still have one of the most threatening aerial attacks in the game. We don’t believe Jordy is a #1 WR but mix in James Jones (catch the ball), Randall Cobb and Jermichael Finely (steady hands) and you have a solid mixture. Throw in Aaron Rodgers and a D that has all the right players but just needs some work and you have a team that can easily make a run for the SB.

#5 Cincinnati Bengals
We chose to put the Bengals here and we hope you are not thinking that we are a bunch of homers. The Bengals over the past couple of years have put together an amazing D-Line, some might argue the best in the NFL. They are extremely young as well and mix in their young DBs, Safeties and the adding of James Harrison to the LB group and they could easily find themselves top 5 in Defense for the Year. On the other side of the ball you have the 2nd best WR in the game, A.J. Green, Mohammed Sanu, Jermaine Gresham, Baby Hawk, 1st round draft pick Tyler Eifert and 2nd rounder Giovanni Bernard (thanks Palmer). Andy Dalton keeps improving like he has (One 1 foot overthrown ball away from leading the team to their first playoff win since the Macarena era) and the Bengals are easily a top 5 team in the NFL.

#6 Seattle Seahawks
We are not hopping on the Seahawks board yet. We do however believe they are a top 10 team in the NFL. If Percy Harvin can stay healthy and Russell Wilson can avoid a sophomore slump, then the Seahawks are looking to have a good year. Just keep feeding Marshawn Lynch those Skittles and keep Sherman and Browner away from trouble and the Seahawks could see themselves advancing farther in the playoffs than last year.

#7 San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers have made it deep into the playoffs the past couple of years, including the SB last year but we think they will fall a little this year. They have a great coach, a sure fire top 5 D in the league and now an across the middle WR, so what are they missing. We are worried about Kaepernick leading the 49ers. Teams have video on him this year and he only played two-thirds of the season last year. Does he have elite potential? Yes, but to have the CEO of your team with so little experience and without Crabtree, we had to put the 49ers at #7.

#8 New England Patriots
Kind of scary putting the Patriots this far down on the list but a lot has transpired since the offseason has begun. The loss of Aaron Hernandez and Wes Welker will for sure put a damper on the aerial attack, but they still have Tom Brady. If Gronk is not able to play until week 6 I am positive the Patriots will find two more TEs that could easily step up (Tebow chants?). The Patriots D is questionable at times (though improving over recent years) but their offense was enough power to crack the top 10.

#9 New Orleans Saints
Our wild card pick! With Sean Payton returning to the team and still manning Drew Brees at the QB spot, the Saints could return to their yearly playoff team that modern NFL fans are used to. Brees will throw for 4500 and 35+ TDs and Lance Moore and Marques Colsten will lead a solid WR core. As usual the Saints will have to score more points than their D gives up which unfortunately for them is a lot. Look for the Saints to take a lot of risks on D and maybe they could make their way back to the SB.

#10 Detroit Lions
What? The Lions are the 10th best team in the NFL? We think so! With the signing of Reggie Bush, the Lions add something to their Offense they have not seen for awhile! They just extended the contract of Matthew Stafford which is huge for them because they assured themselves a QB that can easily throw the ball consistently within 10 yards of Calvin Johnson (Megatron) which seems like that’s all one has to do. Their D has consistently improved over the past couple of years and we believe it is the Lions year to crack the top 10.
